Costs
Driveway costs and what drives them
Driveways are priced on depth, not just area. A drive carrying two cars needs more excavation and more stone than a footpath, so the groundwork is usually the biggest line on the quote.

Driveways: your questions answered
What driveway surfaces do you lay?
Gravel, stone and slabbed driveways, all built on a base suited to vehicle weight. If your project needs a trade we do not cover, we will say so plainly.
How deep does a driveway base need to be?
For a domestic car we usually excavate around 200 to 250mm and build the base back up in compacted layers, deeper again on soft or clay ground.
Can I stay in the house while the drive is done?
Yes, and we plan where you park before the machine arrives so you are never blocked in without warning.
Does a new driveway need drainage?
If the surface sheds water towards the house or the pavement, yes. We look at the fall on the first visit and price any channel or soakaway up front.
How long does a driveway take?
Most domestic drives run between three and six working days depending on the size, the depth of the digout and the weather.
