Common questions

Patios: your questions answered

How much does a patio cost per square metre in Southampton?

Most patios we lay work out between £120 and £220 per square metre including groundwork and materials. Porcelain sits at the top of that range, concrete slabs at the bottom.

Do I need planning permission for a patio?

Normally no. A ground level patio in a domestic garden is usually permitted, though we will point it out if your levels, boundary or a listed property need checking first.

Can a patio be laid in winter?

Yes. We avoid laying in hard frost, but autumn and winter are good months for the digout and base so the slabs can go down early in the season.

Will you take away the old slabs?

Yes. Lifting and removing the existing surface is written into the quote so there is no skip surprise later on.

How do you stop water sitting on the patio?

We build in a slight fall away from the house and, where the ground holds water, add a channel or soakaway before any slab is laid.
